Mason City’s Riverwalk Project Receives Financial Boost With Grant
MASON CITY, Iowa – This is another part of the River City Renaissance project that is designed to transform the face of downtown.
The City recently received a grant of $ 25,000 from the Wellmark Foundation which will be used for the Riverwalk portion of the project. The goal of the project is to open up the area around Willow Creek, with an emphasis on the area between Washington Avenue South and Delaware Avenue South, for further development. The city renderings include a public park along the north shore of the creek. To shape the design of the final product, the city also uses recreation, water quality and other stakeholder groups expressing interest in the project. In addition, the city is seeking more grants and other financial aid to help cover the overall cost of $ 1.3 million.
City administrator Aaron Burnett expects the bidding for the project to begin next spring.
