Trident Tech offers podcasting courses> Charleston Business Journal
Active podcasts have quadrupled in the past three years, and today there are over 2 million active podcasts and over 48 million episodes available, according to Podcast Insights.
To cope with the rapid expansion of the market, Trident Technical CollegeThe film, media and visual arts department is now offering a series of podcast classes, starting this month, the school said in a press release. And you don’t have to be a TTC student to attend.
“The podcast has grown into a big industry in its own right,” said Glenn Seale, dean of film, media and visual arts at Trident Tech. “More and more people are wondering how to start producing their own podcast, so TTC decided to offer basic courses to get people up and running.”
Since the series is an uncredited workforce training course, interested participants, whether or not they are TCC students, can take both courses: Podcasting Level 1 – Podcasting Basics, and Podcasting Level 2 – Next Step Podcasting: Ready for Launch.
Both courses will be led by Bill West, broadcaster with Cumulus Media Charleston and operator of some of the Southeast’s most listened to radio stations, the statement said.
Students will learn how to create their own podcast from start to finish, as well as key elements, such as what attracts subscribers and what types of recording hardware, software, and hosting options are needed. Students will have access to the college’s media arts facilities and its high-end audio recording equipment.
“Podcasting is the latest evolution in mass communication that allows individuals to broadcast without the need for transmitters, towers or special licenses,” Seale said in a statement. “One of the most exciting things about podcasting is that content creators now have the power to be heard around the world without massive financial investment or permission from annoying gatekeepers.”
Podcasting Level 1 – Podcasting Basics meets from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from September 28 to Oct. 31. November 5 or 9-16. Podcasting Level 2 – Next Step Podcasting: Ready to Launch meets from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from October 12 to 19 or from November 30 to December 30. 7. The cost of each course is $ 189. Registration is now open.
